My name is Randy Scott Goines, I am a maker of fine furniture in
southwestern Ohio.Working in wood is my career and my life. My work shop is
located on our family farm, where my wife & I, along with her parents run
our antiques shops. My love for furniture can most likely be traced to my
love of antiques. My first experience working with furniture came from the
need to repair the old cupboards , benches and tables my wife and I would
buy for sale in our shop. After spending a few years taking these treasures
apart and putting them back together, I realized that there are only a few
ways to build a quality piece of furniture that will last long beyond the
life of it's maker. The traditional ways of joinery and the attention to
detail that were the hallmark of quality in the past are still viable today.
This does not mean that the craft of furniture making should remain static,
quite the contrary, it should and must evolve to meet the needs of the
present day, however as a craftsman, I believe I must stay in touch with the
basic ideology of the craft ,as it was in the days of Chippendale, Sheraton &
Hepplewhite. I work solely in hardwoods and I prefer not to use veneer if at
all possible.
I select all my material by hand, one piece at a time, and make all
component parts from scratch (I rarely if ever "out source" any thing). I
build only custom furniture and do not do production runs, this allows me to
concentrate on individual projects and give each piece the attention it
deserves.
